Rafael Espinoza-Luis Alberto Lopez eyed for November 15 in Mexico
Espinoza, the WBO featherweight champion, last defended his belt on May 4 in Las Vegas. He stopped Edward Vazquez with a seventh-round TKO. The 27-0 fighter, nicknamed “El Divino,” has long wanted a homecoming bout. This matchup against Lopez offers that chance.
Lopez, 31-3, is a former IBF champion, best known for his aggressive style and toughness. His most recent fights have included high-level competition against world-class opposition. If finalized, the bout would mark his return to a major stage.
The undercard will also carry weight. A Lindolfo Delgado vs. Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela IBF 140-pound title eliminator is scheduled. Trainer Robert Garcia explained the stakes, saying, “Sometimes it takes a while for promotions to make fights, but the IBF is strict. This winner should be fighting for a world title.”
The card also features prospects like Emiliano Vargas and heavyweight Richard Torrez Jr., keeping it rich with young talent.
For Espinoza, the fight represents a chance to solidify his status among Mexico’s champions. For Lopez, it is a road to redemption after title setbacks. A win for either man would carry heavy implications for the featherweight division.
