A Community Tribute to a Wrestling Icon
San Diego is honoring one of its greatest heroes in a bold, unforgettable way. A brand-new Rey Mysterio mural now shines in the heart of Logan Heights, celebrating the WWE Hall of Famer and his lucha libre legacy. Standing beside his daughter Aalyah, Mysterio grew emotional during the unveiling. He reflected on his journey from a local dreamer to a global superstar.
In addition, Mysterio said the artwork represents every luchador who opened doors before him. It also inspires the next generation rising behind him. Therefore, the mural stands as a strong reminder of lucha libre’s cultural roots and San Diego’s deep connection to the sport.
The Artwork: A Legendary 619
Located at 30th and Commercial, the mural shows Mysterio delivering his famous 619 to Fishman. The moment carries history. In 1988, Fishman unmasked Rey’s uncle, Rey Misterio, during a fierce rivalry. However, lead artist Daniel “Dentlok” Angeles flipped the script to give Mysterio the symbolic victory.
Meanwhile, several lucha libre legends sit ringside, including Blue Demon, Perro Aguayo, and El Santo. The artist explained that their presence honors the “OGs” who built the foundation of Lucha Libre.
Built with Heart and Determination
Storms hit San Diego while the team painted. Yet the artists continued working long days and weekends. Their passion kept the project alive. As a result, every stroke reflects resilience and love for the craft.
This is the second major Rey Mysterio mural in the neighborhood. Another tribute launched earlier this year featuring his family and longtime wrestling partners.
A Legacy That Lives Forever
For Mysterio and Aalyah, this tribute is more than stunning artwork. It is home. The mural includes heartfelt touches such as images of his parents and uncle. Therefore, the moment felt even more emotional on the first anniversary of his father’s passing.
Fans attending WWE Survivor Series at Petco Park this weekend can visit both murals. Each location showcases history, pride, and the electrifying spirit of lucha libre.
Rey Mysterio’s legacy lives beyond the ring. Now, it is permanently painted across the city that raised him.
