Alejandro “Savage” Múnera continues building his path in bare-knuckle boxing as the Colombian fighter enters a new stage of his career.
For Múnera, bare-knuckle boxing was not a sudden alternative to traditional boxing. It was something he had been watching and envisioning for years.
The Medellín fighter told Fajador that he first became interested in the discipline in 2019.
“From the moment I discovered it, it caught my attention. I started picturing myself there, and little by little it became stronger in my mind until it turned into a goal,” Múnera told Fajador.
That interest eventually became a clear objective.
As his career progressed, Múnera continued gaining experience in Colombia and abroad. Bare-knuckle boxing remained part of the future he wanted to build.
International experience shaped his development
Múnera’s professional boxing career also gave him opportunities to compete on international stages.
In March 2024, he fought in Puerto Rico on a Most Valuable Promotions card that also featured Jake Paul.
For Múnera, that experience became another part of his development as a fighter.
He told Fajador that he did not feel he was able to show his full potential on that occasion.
“I didn’t show what I was capable of, what I truly have to offer,” Múnera said.
Instead of allowing one performance to define his path, “Savage” continued moving forward.
His attention increasingly shifted toward the discipline that had interested him for years.
Finding something different in bare-knuckle boxing
Múnera believes bare-knuckle boxing offers something different from what he had previously experienced in traditional boxing.
According to the Colombian fighter, one of the qualities that attracts him most is what he describes as a greater sense of honesty in competition.
“Maybe what I find is a greater level of honesty in terms of what you commit and what you put on the line when you step into a fight,” Múnera told Fajador.
He also believes the format creates more opportunities for a decisive finish.
For Múnera, that can leave less room for a fight to depend entirely on the judges’ interpretation.
That direct nature of competition has become one of the reasons he feels connected to the discipline.
Building his bare-knuckle path in Colombia
Múnera’s growth in bare-knuckle boxing has also developed alongside the emergence of events dedicated to the discipline in Colombia.
In November 2023, he competed on the first Boxeo Sin Guantes card in Bogotá.
Múnera defeated José Luis Saldarriaga by medical stoppage in the third round.
The appearance gave him an early opportunity to compete in the format he had already been interested in for several years.
Nearly two years later, his role within the Colombian bare-knuckle scene had grown.
In October 2025, Múnera returned for Boxeo Sin Guantes 2 in Medellín.
This time, he was featured in the main event against Mexican fighter Roberto “Sinko” Uvando.
Múnera earned another victory after the contest was stopped on medical grounds.
The progression showed how his position within the discipline was evolving.
He went from facing domestic opposition on the first card to headlining against an international opponent in Colombia.
Those appearances also allowed Múnera to continue gaining experience at home while building toward opportunities abroad.
New opportunities outside Colombia
Múnera’s progression eventually opened doors beyond the Colombian scene.
In 2026, he faced former world champion Javier Fortuna at an IBA Bare Knuckle event in the United States.
The matchup added another significant name to Múnera’s international experience.
For the Colombian, opportunities at that level are part of the path he had been pursuing for years.
He believes they reflect the work and focus he has put into this stage of his career.
“I’m at the starting point”
Despite already competing internationally, Múnera does not believe he has reached his final destination.
He sees his current position as the beginning of something bigger.
Múnera told Fajador that his recent growth comes from a more focused and deliberate approach to his career.
He also credits the results that have helped him open new doors.
“I’m at the starting point, so to speak, of what I had been looking for,” Múnera said.
That statement reflects the way he views this stage of his career.
Bare-knuckle boxing started as an interest several years ago.
Today, it has become one of his main professional goals.
Múnera wants to reach the top
Múnera is clear about how far he wants to take this opportunity.
“I want to take this stage of my career all the way to the top,” Múnera told Fajador.
His ambitions also extend beyond international competition.
He wants to strengthen his position within the development of bare-knuckle boxing in Colombia.
“At this point, I would dare to say that I am the face of this sport in Colombia on a national level,” Múnera said.
His next goal is to consolidate that position.
He also wants to continue earning international opportunities and leave his mark on the sport.
What began as an interest around 2019 has now become a central part of Múnera’s career.
In his view, the journey is only beginning.
