Vikingo
Things just took a frustrating turn for El Hijo del Vikingo. After WWE scooped up AAA Lucha Libre last year, the Mexican sensation quickly became one of Stamford’s most exciting acquisitions. But instead of tearing it up in the ring, his injury recovery has hit a wall, leaving fans wondering when they’ll actually get to see him fly again.
A Heel Turn And Title Glory
Known worldwide for a high-risk offensive style that borders on insane, the former two-time AAA Mega Champion actually found himself getting booed late last year. He leaned into the hate, eventually turning heel by stabbing Dragon Lee in the back during a November 2025 tag match against Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano.
Losing a subsequent stipulation bout to Dominik locked him out of the AAA Mega Championship picture. But Vikingo didn’t stay down long. He pivoted and snatched the Latin American Championship from El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. at Noche de Los Grandes.
Main Roster Debut Cut Short
His push into the American spotlight hasn’t been easy. A planned NXT showcase against EK Prosper was scrapped following a backstage ambush by Keanu Carver.
Vikingo finally got his moment on the July 3 episode of SmackDown. Though brief, his match against Rey Fenix was an absolute Lucha Libre masterclass. Then came the bad break: an ACL tear sidelined him entirely, forcing the 29-year-old to drop his hard-won Latin American Championship without a fight.
Second Surgery Sparks Concern
Since the diagnosis, Vikingo has been remarkably open about his road back, posting hospital updates and thanking his family for holding things down. Just last month, the vibe was incredibly positive. He even went on record saying he’d be back between the ropes within seven months.
That’s why his latest post caught everyone off guard. Vikingo confirmed he’s heading back under the knife. He left out the specifics, so it’s completely up in the air whether this second surgery was always part of the timeline or if his rehab just hit a major setback. Either way, the wrestling world is hoping for the best.
