2025 Pan American Junior Games
Cuban men’s freestyle wrestling is ready to shine at the II Pan American Junior Games in Asunción, Paraguay, on August 22. Leading the charge are Orislandy Perdomo (74 kg), Geannis Garzón (86 kg), and Darell Lee (97 kg). These Cuban Freestyle Wrestlers Target Gold at the 2025 Pan American Junior Games with skill, determination, and experience.
Perdomo’s Road to Dominance
From Mayabeque, Perdomo spent almost two years training in China. There, he sharpened his skills against top international opponents. Upon returning to Cuba, he dominated the Pan American Junior qualifier in Querétaro, Mexico, earning the prestigious “Golden Boot” award. In the final, he crushed Puerto Rico’s Rafael García by fall in just 1:14, proving his rock-solid defense and explosive offense.
Garzón Seeks Redemption
Santiago’s Geannis Garzón, a bronze medalist in Cali Valle 2021, is chasing redemption. Disqualified at the Pan American Senior Championships in Monterrey, he now aims to reclaim his reputation. With past gold at the U23 continental level, Garzón is expected to bring relentless intensity in Asunción.
Darell Lee’s Heavyweight Ambition
In the 97 kg category, Darell Lee looks to rebound from a semifinal loss to U.S. champion Massoma Black Endene. Known for raw power and determination, Lee remains one of Cuba’s strongest medal contenders.
Team Cuba’s Medal Outlook
The Cuban squad features five wrestlers, blending seasoned stars with rising talents like Vladimir Vila (57 kg) and Juset Martínez (65 kg). Although predictions suggest three bronze medals, national wrestling commissioner Martín Torres believes they can exceed expectations.
Cuba won two titles when freestyle debuted at the 2021 Pan American Junior Games. With U23 athletes representing their nations’ best, and fierce competition from Mexico and the United States, the challenge is huge. Yet, Cuba stands confident, ready to fight for glory in Asunción.
