A City United by Combat Sports
San Pedro, Coahuila came alive with energy as kickboxing eliminations kicked off, uniting athletes and families for a spectacular martial arts event. With strong support from Mayor Brenda Cecilia Güereca Hernández and coordination by Ubaldina Mata González, head of the Sports Attention Unit, the tournament celebrated local talent while promoting community engagement.
From Local Rings to Global Goals
Coach Manuel Torres from the Municipal Gym led this inspiring effort with a clear purpose — to raise funds and awareness for three athletes representing San Pedro at the upcoming Martial Arts World Championship in Monterrey, Nuevo León, from December 5–7.
He emphasized that the program not only teaches fighting skills but also builds discipline, confidence, and opportunity. Moreover, with consistent municipal support, these fighters now have genuine chances to compete internationally and make their city proud.
Training Opportunities for Everyone
To keep the momentum strong, Torres encouraged residents to join the kickboxing program at the Municipal Gym, open Monday through Friday from 6:00 PM. The program welcomes children as young as five. In addition, with a modest weekly fee of 140 pesos, participants help fund national competitions and support their teammates’ championship dreams.
Therefore, the initiative benefits both athletes and the broader community by creating opportunities and strengthening teamwork.
Recognition and Community Spirit
During the event, martial arts instructors recognized Mayor Güereca for her dedication to sports development and youth empowerment. Ramsés Argumedo Vega, Director of Inclusion and Social Development, accepted the award on her behalf. This recognition underscored how sports, especially kickboxing, continue to unite San Pedro and inspire new generations.
Ultimately, with every punch and kick, San Pedro proves that kickboxing is more than a sport — it’s a community movement driving local pride toward global success.
