Alberto “El Ixtleco” Portillo’s Quest for Gold
For Alberto Portillo, 2026 simply cannot arrive soon enough. To the fighter known as “El Ixtleco,” that year represents more than just a date on the calendar—it is the long-awaited stage for his career-defining moment. This fierce competitor from Morelos is counting down the days to the ultimate prize: the National Championship of Limalama in Full Contact. While currently ranked number two in the nation, the Tlahuica athlete refuses to get comfortable; he is chomping at the bit to claim the top spot.
The Upcoming Showdown
This coming March, the intensity reaches a boiling point. The Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM) will serve as the battleground for this high-stakes event. Under the expert tutelage of coaches Lino Portillo and Moisés Perches, Alberto is preparing to step into the ring. Standing in his way is a formidable adversary from the State of Mexico, José Eduardo Portillo Haro.
Fighting for the Belt
The combat is scheduled in the middleweight division, ranging from 64 to 68 kilos. “El Ixtleco” seeks to snatch the championship belt, which is officially sanctioned by the Mexican Federation of Limalama (Femedell). To achieve this ambitious goal, the fighter knows he must prepare with intense rigor. Consequently, his training camp is already underway.
A Legacy of Discipline
“Representing Morelos is a pride and a blessing for me,” Portillo stated in a recent interview. “Of course, it requires effort, commitment, dedication, and above all, discipline.”
He further explained his deep connection to the sport.
“I liked this sport because I saw my father train, teach, and compete. My inspiration is my parents and little sisters. However, regarding the discipline I practice, it is my father. I watched him fight and said: ‘One day I will be like him.’ I will work hard for that championship.”
Versatility and Support
At only 20 years old, Alberto has practiced Limalama since the tender age of five. He proudly represents the Multidisciplinary School of Martial Arts Limalama Lamakai Puente de Ixtla. Moreover, he is a versatile athlete, training in kickboxing, Muay Thai, and boxing. Currently, he is backed by a strong infrastructure. There are 12 schools affiliated with the Polynesian Association of Martial Arts Lima Lama of the State of Morelos, fully endorsed by Conade.
