Jon Jones
Jon Jones could be permanently retired from combat sports as an athlete.
The former UFC champion, who was speculated to be part of a super fight against Alex Pereira at UFC White House, decided to hang up the gloves last year.
Although he regrets his decision, he does not speak specifically about a return to the Octagon and revealed a previously unknown detail about his health condition.
In a video published by Tripnotix, Jones revealed that he lives with a severe case of arthritis, specifically in his left hip, a condition that makes him eligible for a hip replacement.
While speaking with Joaquin Buckley about a possible fight against Daniel Cormier in RAF, “Bones” explained that a physical limitation weighs heavily on his daily life, and that his decision to retire is mainly about prioritizing his health and being present in his son’s everyday life.
“I have severe arthritis and most people don’t know that. My left hip is affected by arthritis, and honestly, I’m in condition for a hip replacement.”
“I have a three-year-old son, and I want to make the most of what I have left in my hips so I can spend time with him,” Jones said.
While many fans are hoping to see Pereira vs. Jones, “Poatan” has other options for his next Octagon appearance.
If he confirms his intention to move up to the heavyweight division, there is a possibility of an interim title fight against Cyril Gane, especially with no news regarding a potential return by Tom Aspinall.
If he decides to stay in the light heavyweight division, Pereira could face the division’s rising stars, such as Carlos Ulberg or even Khamzat Chimaev, in a fight that fans would not want to miss.
