The city of Torrejón de Ardoz has officially proven itself as a powerhouse for combat sports. On January 31, the Madrid Federación Madrileña de Lucha held its prestigious Annual Gala of Associated Disciplines. During this exciting night, the City Council received the highly coveted “Gran Cruz al Mérito Deportivo.” This award specifically honors the city’s unwavering support for the diffusion of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Mayor Alejandro Navarro stepped into the spotlight to accept the prize on behalf of the municipality.
A Legacy of Hosting Excellence
This recognition did not happen by accident. It is the direct result of hard work and successful planning. For instance, in 2025, Torrejón de Ardoz hosted the Amateur MMA Championships for both Spain and Madrid. That event was a massive triumph. It attracted a legion of passionate fans and showcased flawless organization. Consequently, the Federation felt compelled to highlight the city’s dedication. By providing a high-quality venue for these athletes, the administration has solidified the city’s reputation as a sports hub.
Local Legends Share the Stage
However, the City Council was not the only winner that night. The gala also celebrated the incredible trajectories of three local heroes. First, the Federation recognized Miriam Gutiérrez. She is not only the Councilor for Deportes y Turismo but also a fierce boxing world champion. Additionally, the spotlight shone on Juan José Crespo, a world champion athlete, and Violeta Rivera, a dedicated local police agent. These individuals represent the fighting spirit of the community.
Commitment to Future Victories
Mayor Navarro was quick to express his gratitude. “I want to thank the Madrid Wrestling Federation for this recognition,” he stated during the ceremony. He emphasized that his administration remains open to new opportunities. “From the City Council of Torrejón de Ardoz, we are always willing to support all sports and foster the organization of championships,” Navarro added. With this renewed commitment, the city is ready for the next round of challenges.
