Amanda Serrano vs. Skye Falzon
Seven-division world champion Amanda Serrano is calling it a career after one last night under the lights. At a packed kickoff press conference inside San Juan’s DISTRITO T-Mobile on Tuesday, Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) made it official: Serrano will take her final bow on Saturday, January 9, 2027, in The Last Walk: Amanda Serrano vs. Skye Falzon.
Fighting out of the Coliseo de Puerto Rico and streaming live on DAZN, Serrano (50-4-1, 32 KOs) puts her unified WBO and WBA featherweight titles on the line against Australia’s fourth-ranked WBA contender Skye Falzon (12-2, 7 KOs). Just as you would expect from Serrano, the bout is scheduled for 12 three-minute rounds.
Coming Home to Say Goodbye
For Puerto Rico’s first and only undisputed boxing champion, ending an 18-year run anywhere else was never really an option. Seated onstage alongside host Pepe Calderón and MVP co-founders Nakisa Bidarian and Jake Paul, Serrano talked openly about what it means to close out her career on the island.
“Well, it means everything,” Serrano said. “I always knew that my last fight, my last step, would be here in Puerto Rico.”
Walking away is still going to hurt. Serrano still loves the actual fighting, and she knows the hardest part of retirement will be trading the roar of a packed arena for quiet nights outside the ropes. Even so, she feels the timing is right—and she wants the island that backed her from the start to treat January 9 like a shared celebration.
“You guys helped me get to where I’m at right now, and this is our story,” she told the crowd. “Not just my story, not just my journey. It’s our journey.”
Chasing History on Her Own Terms
Plenty is still on the line when the bell rings. Serrano is currently tied with Christy Martin for the all-time women’s knockout record at 32, meaning one more stoppage puts her alone at the top. She isn’t forcing it, though.
“If the knockout comes, it comes,” Serrano said,
adding that she just wants to soak in every second of her final appearance and be remembered as a game changer who gave the sport everything she had.
That legacy is already secure. Few fighters have pushed harder for equality in women’s boxing, a point Bidarian underscored by reminding the room that Serrano once gave up her WBC belt rather than compromise on fighting three-minute rounds.
Skye Falzon Isn’t Here Just to Watch
On the other side of the stage, Skye Falzon wasn’t hiding how much this moment meant to her. The Australian contender admitted she actually cried when she got the call to face a fighter she has admired for years. Once the initial shock wore off, however, the gratitude gave way to a challenger’s mindset.
“I’m not here just to take part in Amanda’s history. I’m here to try to write my own,” Falzon said. “I wouldn’t be a fighter if I didn’t believe I could win.”
Falzon fully expected the 12 three-minute round format and plans to lean on her technical coach to pull off the upset in enemy territory. Serrano, for her part, loves hearing that kind of talk. She made it clear the belts are staying in Puerto Rico, but she wants a hungry, in-shape challenger across from her so there are no doubts she beat the very best version of Falzon on her way out.
The Fighter Who Built MVP
For Nakisa Bidarian and Jake Paul, the night also marks the end of an era for their company. Long before Most Valuable Promotions had a global roster of nearly 400 athletes and broadcast deals spanning 170 countries, Serrano was the first fighter to take a chance on them. She convinced the promotion to go all in on women’s boxing, and alongside her manager and brother-in-law Jordan Maldonado and her world-champion sister Cindy Serrano, she put together a Hall of Fame run.
“Amanda Serrano to me is numero uno,” Bidarian said. “You do not want to miss this event.”
