Dana White
It took some time, but Khamzat Chimaev finally has his first title defense set as middleweight champion.
The undefeated champion will face Sean Strickland in the main event of UFC 328, scheduled for May 9th in New Jersey. And when looking ahead to what’s to come, Dana White revealed he feels some apprehension.
On the official UFC YouTube channel, the organization’s president was honest, admitting his concern about what might happen before, during, and after the highly anticipated bout.
Dana’s stance is explained by the fact that the rivalry between Chimaev and Strickland is one of the biggest and perhaps the most hostile in MMA today.
Whenever they can, the middleweight champion and the challenger exchange insults and threats publicly. The tension between the two is so evident that many are highly anticipating the fight’s press conference.
Aware of the friction between the two athletes and their controversial reputations, Dana White confirmed that he will increase security at the event.
“A fun event and, obviously, the main event is the fight everyone has been waiting a long time for. Strickland was incredible in his last fight. How much security do you think we’re going to need?” followed by laughter from Michael Bisping.
UFC 328 will take place on May 9th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
