Israel Adesanya is still unsure about when his MMA career will come to an end.
Currently going through a rocky phase, the Nigerian is on a three-fight losing streak and is preparing to return to the octagon in the main event of UFC Seattle against Joe Pyfer.
Fans and experts view this bout as decisive, with lingering rumors that another defeat could be a determining factor in a potential retirement.
In an interview with 10 News, the champion revealed that he is not sure exactly how many fights he has left ahead of him, emphasizing that anything can happen in life and that only God knows how much longer he will remain active.
“It would be nice to know, but you can’t really know because in life it just happens. Things happen. So, how many do I have left? Only God knows,” Adesanya said.
After losing to Alex Pereira twice in kickboxing and once for the UFC middleweight belt, Adesanya faced him again at UFC 287 in April 2023 in Miami. The rematch had a different outcome.
After surviving intense kicks in the first round and being under pressure at the start of the second round, Adesanya surprised everyone by landing a brutal punch that knocked Pereira out, reclaiming the division’s belt against his combat sports nemesis.
After ending “Poatan’s” undefeated run in the UFC, the former champion lost his next three fights, suffering defeats against Sean Strickland, Dricus Du Plessis, and Nassourdine Imavov.
Pyfer, on the other hand, is at the peak of his career with six wins in his last seven bouts. In his most recent fight, he submitted Abusupiyan Magomedov at UFC 320.
A win over the former division champion could place him inside the Top 10 of the middleweight rankings.
