WWE x AAA Worlds Collide
Saturday, September 26, is going to be absolute chaos for wrestling fans. Chicago is hosting two massive events at the exact same time, forcing locals to make a seriously tough call on where to spend their money.
AEW All Out has already sold out the Now Arena, banking on Will Ospreay defending his AEW Men’s World Championship against Jon Moxley. Plus, there’s that highly anticipated ladder match for the tag titles featuring Cage & Cope, FTR, and The Young Bucks. But just 20 miles down the road, Allstate Arena is rolling out a completely different kind of spectacle with WWE x AAA Worlds Collide.
The Cross-Promotional War
Up until a few days ago, we only had one confirmed match for this historic joint venture.
During AAA Triplemanía 34 last weekend, Roxanne Perez outlasted Nattie in a Fatal 4-Way to earn the No. 1 Contender spot for the Reina de Reinas Championship. Later in the broadcast, La Catalina finally dethroned Flammer, ending her massive 1128-day run with the belt. That set the stage for Perez vs. Catalina at Worlds Collide, giving us our first real taste of what WWE and Lucha Libre AAA were cooking up to counter AEW’s pay-per-view.
Leaked Matches Catch Fans Off Guard
Now, thanks to the Allstate Arena updating its official event listing, the rest of the card is rapidly taking shape. The venue is touting “four huge matches”—though, as always in wrestling, the card is strictly subject to change until the bell rings.
The biggest shocker? CM Punk stepping into the ring. Sure, it’s Chicago, so an appearance from the hometown hero makes total sense. But nobody expected a six-man tag match. Word is Punk will align with AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio and AAA Mega Champion El Grande Americano to square off against Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh, and Omos.
Roster Mysteries and Lucha Reunions
WWE planted the seeds for this chaotic tag bout on Monday Night Raw, even though Omos completely ghosted his AAA buddy “Dirty Dom” when things actually got physical. Adding another layer of weirdness to the mix is Punk’s current status strictly as a SmackDown roster member. How he officially crosses brand lines to step into this turf war remains a mystery.
Beyond the six-man madness, the arena is advertising a wild Lucha Bros reunion. Penta and Rey Fenix are slated to battle Perros del Mal—specifically, a lineup featuring Daga, Angel, Berto, and Karmen Petrovic. Toss in Dragon Lee fighting Jack Cartwheel, plus Fatal Influence taking on Las Tóxicas, and you’ve got a ridiculously stacked lineup.
