Norberto “Pimpón” Rodríguez Leads Celaya’s MMA Charge
Celaya, Gto. — Five determined athletes from Celaya are on a mission to earn their spot on Mexico’s national MMA team. Led by veteran coach and pro fighter Norberto “Pimpón” Rodríguez, the team is competing at the National MMA, Striking, and Grappling Selective in the world-famous city of San Miguel de Allende. Norberto “Pimpón” Rodríguez Leads Celaya’s MMA Charge.
Representing Osos MMA, Celaya’s fighters are going head-to-head against top talent from all over Mexico in a tournament sanctioned by the Asociación Mexicana de Artes Marciales Mixtas (AMAMM).
A Rising Team with Big Ambitions
Joining Rodríguez in the MMA competition are Rafael García, José Antonio Vázquez, Ángel Álvarez, “SaM GB,” and David Alejandro. While most are newcomers, one fighter is making his third appearance at the Selective.
Coach Rodríguez emphasized that this is no ordinary tournament.
“This selective is for advanced athletes—those with over three years of experience or multiple fights. It forms the national team for upcoming international events under AMAMM’s banner,” he shared.
The Path to Pan-Ams and World Championships
Osos MMA is the first officially affiliated AMAMM school in Celaya. With that status comes the opportunity to rack up points in ranking tournaments—crucial for a ticket to the Pan-American or World MMA Championships.
Each placement matters. First, second, and third place all earn valuable points toward the national rankings. This event is just the beginning.
National Pride, Local Roots
The Celaya team is not only chasing titles—they’re gaining experience, building discipline, and forging a legacy. For Norberto Rodríguez and Osos MMA, this is a statement: Celaya is ready to compete on the national and global stage of Mixed Martial Arts.
