LAP 06
The first anniversary of the Latin American Prospects (LAP) brought incredible energy to amateur Mixed Martial Arts. Held at Plaza Palacios, LAP 06 successfully attracted a massive new wave of passionate supporters.
A Milestone for Amateur MMA
This thrilling event was part of Tijuana’s 137th Anniversary sports festival. Alongside the Tijuana Half Marathon, LAP 06 featured over fifteen exciting bouts. It captivated a giant crowd.
Raúl Arvizu, director of Entram Gym, expressed his deep satisfaction with the turnout. He noted that the true victory was introducing MMA to people who normally never watch the sport.
Past events mostly took place indoors at local gyms. However, taking the fights outdoors completely transformed the atmosphere. Arvizu thanked the LAP team, the City Council, and Imdet for their crucial support. Partnering with the local government perfectly showcases the positive impact of their hard work over the past year.
Champions Crowned in the Ring
The main event delivered pure martial excitement. Tijuana native Doedk Rodríguez absolutely dominated the center of the cage. He defeated Víctor “Cubano” Flores from Ensenada in just two quick rounds. With this stunning victory, Rodríguez became the historic lightweight LAP Champion.
The fantastic additional event was equally spectacular for the lively crowd. Santiago “Goat” Huerta, traveling from Mazatlán, claimed the flyweight championship title. He skillfully secured a highly impressive victory against Zion Fairley, a fierce competitor representing Team Hurricane Awesome from Tucson, Arizona.
What the Future Holds for LAP
Dedicated local fans will absolutely not have to wait very long for even more thrilling action. Organizers already plan to host at least two more major events in Tijuana later this year. These upcoming fight nights are scheduled for September and November.
