BKB Bare Knuckle Boxing brought bare-knuckle fighting to Mexico for the first time on Saturday night, and Tijuana’s Auditorio Municipal absolutely delivered. If BKB 59 was a test run for expanding south of the border, the September 19 card proved the market is hungry for it. The promotion promised a night of knockouts, and the fighters clearly got the memo.
Julian Fernandez Stops Dan Podmore in Round Two
Fighting in front of your hometown crowd can be a heavy burden, but Julian “Pit Bull Jr” Fernandez looked completely at ease. Defending his BKB Super Cruiserweight World Championship against former three-division champ Dan Podmore, Fernandez didn’t waste time finding his range. He caught Podmore just over a minute into the second round, ending the night with a brutal knockout at the 1:12 mark. The main event was a pure firefight while it lasted, easily bagging Fight of the Night honors.
The Unbeaten Streak Continues
The win bumps Fernandez up to a flawless 4-0 bare-knuckle record, with every single victory coming by way of stoppage. Podmore was no stepping stone, either. He walked into the Trigon with a seasoned 9-4 record and eight stoppages under his belt, which makes Fernandez’s quick finish even more impressive. Part of that success might come down to his unconventional camp. As Athlon Sports noted before the bout, Fernandez avoids the massive super-camps, preferring to train almost exclusively with his father, Pedro “Pitbull” Fernandez. Whatever they’re doing in that gym, it’s working.
Cecy Ulloa Wins Big and Sparks a Rivalry
The main event wasn’t the only time the local fans had a reason to go wild. Cecy Ulloa stepped up in the co-main event to claim the vacant BKB Super Flyweight World Championship. She faced a seriously tough test in veteran Andy Nguyen, who carried a massive advantage in overall combat sports experience into the matchup. Ulloa weathered the early storm, dug deep, and eventually forced a TKO stoppage right at the end of the third round.
A Shocking Crossover Confrontation
Things got chaotic before the adrenaline even had a chance to wear off. Right after Ulloa’s hand was raised, BKFC champion Britain Hart jumped into the Trigon and got straight in the new champion’s face. The unexpected forehead-to-forehead staredown sent the crowd into a frenzy. Now, combat sports fans are buzzing about the very real possibility of a cross-promotional superfight between the two organizations.
A Night Defined by Brutal Finishes
Partnering with Zanfer Boxing for this Mexican expansion was clearly the right move for BKB. Between the seven main-card bouts and five TikTok prelims, the judges barely had to work. Nearly every single fight on the main card ended in a knockout or TKO. The lone exception was an unfortunate clash between Romario Ovalle and Marco Chino Villa, which ended as a no-contest following an accidental headbutt 45 seconds into the third round.
