Abdullah Mason successfully defended his world lightweight title with a stunning late-round technical knockout. The Cleveland crowd witnessed a spectacular boxing card packed with drama and action on Saturday night.
An Epic Finale at the Wolstein Center
The 22-year-old southpaw, Abdullah Mason (21-0, 18 KOs), kept his WBO lightweight crown. The champion defeated Toledo native Albert Bell (28-1, 9 KOs) in front of 10,101 roaring fans.
The fight started with intense action right from the opening bell. Mason attacked the body with powerful left and right hooks. Bell quickly answered with sharp, accurate counterpunches. An accidental clash of heads in the second round opened a cut above Mason’s left eye.
The Champion Surges in the Middle Rounds
The young champion did not let the blood or his opponent’s experience faze him. Mason adjusted his strategy and became much more aggressive. He landed stiff jabs and straight lefts that stopped Bell in his tracks.
By the ninth round, the body attack became overwhelming. Mason wore down his opponent’s physical resistance with continuous combinations and a sustained offensive assault.
The Dramatic Twelfth Round Knockout
Mason rushed out in the final round to finish the fight. He dropped Bell early in the round with a fierce combination. The challenger bravely got back up on his feet. Another relentless attack forced referee Marc Nelson to stop the bout at 45 seconds of the twelfth round.
The champion later revealed his corner told him he was losing on the scorecards. He immediately picked up the pace to ensure the judges did not decide his fate. Mason thanked Cleveland and praised Bell for stepping up to the challenge.
Mason said: “I feel great. We had a plan. We were going to work the body. Then they told me I was losing on the scorecards, so I picked up the pace and finished the fight.”
Shu Shu Carrington Survives a Tough Title Defense
Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington (18-0, 10 KOs) successfully completed his first WBC featherweight title defense. The Brooklyn boxing pride defeated Mexican contender Rene Palacios by unanimous decision.
Carrington established his hand speed early with rapid combinations. Palacios brought a dangerous, aggressive style and landed well-placed hooks around the guard. The Mexican challenger even landed a brutal body shot in the eleventh round that seriously hurt the champion.
Carrington showed incredible composure inside the ring. He relied on his footwork and counter-punching to secure the victory. The judges scored the bout 116-112, 117-111, and 118-110. Now, he wants to unify the division against the best current champions.
Tiger Johnson Dominates His Homecoming Bout
American Olympian Tiger Johnson (18-0, 8 KOs) thrilled his hometown crowd in Cleveland. He controlled Christopher Guerrero with a disciplined jab to earn a unanimous decision win.
Johnson dictated the pace perfectly from the very start. Guerrero tried to close the distance in the fifth round, but Johnson instantly regained control. Final scores of 100-90 and 99-91 reflected his absolute technical superiority. After the win, Johnson boldly called out Devin Haney.
Undercard Results from Cleveland
The July 4, 2026, boxing event featured several other exciting matchups for local fans. Undefeated lightweight Scooter Davis earned a solid unanimous decision victory over Carlos Ramos.
In the super featherweight division, Ibrahim Mason knocked out Erik Hanley at 1:59 of the second round. Finally, lightweight Abdurraham Mason defeated Alvaro Huizar Cabral by unanimous decision over four rounds.
