Camillo Avellan
On a story originally reported by ATSteveDuncan, Camillo Avellan walked out of the Casino Du Lac Leamy in Quebec with gold around his waist on Friday night, claiming the vacant featherweight strap at Samourai MMA 22 and streamed on UFC Fight Pass. The November 6 card gave the local crowd ten violent, fast-paced bouts, all building toward a main event clash between Canadian-Chilean standout Camillo “The Chilean” Avellan and fellow Canadian Leo “LYON” Bonin. Both guys came out looking to finish early, though it didn’t take long for Avellan to find his range and dictate the pace.
Putting Away Bonin in the Second
The finish came in the second round when Avellan put Bonin away via TKO. That win keeps his pro record spotless at 6-0, a run that now includes three knockouts and a submission. Bonin, who put up a gritty fight before the stoppage, slides to 5-2. Anyone who has watched Avellan over the last year saw this coming. Back in July at Samourai MMA 20, he tore through Martin Leon with elbows and punches in the first round. Two months before that at Samourai MMA 19, he caught Gustavo Mena in a third-round armbar.
A Long Road Through the Regional Scene
Avellan has been a fixture in the promotion since his pro debut at Samourai MMA 13 in March 2025, where he stopped Gustavo Garcia in the third. He followed that up by going the distance twice in late 2025, taking unanimous decisions over both Malik Bendaho and Raul Flores. That composure comes from a deep amateur career spent grinding in the MFL and Nova Fight League cages between 2017 and 2023. After years of testing himself against tough amateurs like Ryad Hilali, Samir Dahmane, and Donald Jones, Avellan now sits comfortably at the top of the Samourai MMA featherweight division.
