After more than a year away from competition, Pepe “El Sabor de la Ciudad” Torres is ready to return to the cage. The Spanish fighter will face Jefferson Vargas on September 26 at WOW 32 in Seville.
Torres sees this fight as the start of a new chapter. His return comes after what happened in Arizona, where his scheduled bout at LFA 236 did not take place.
“Right now, I feel like I’m in one of the best moments of my career. I’ve gained a lot of experience, I’ve competed outside Spain, and every fight has helped me grow both inside and outside the cage.”
Returning under the WOW banner also carries special meaning for Torres. He wants to enjoy competition again while continuing to move forward in his career.
“I want to enjoy competing again, put on a great show, and keep moving toward my goal, which is to reach the UFC. Every fight I take is moving in that direction.”
Jefferson Vargas, the challenge in Seville
Torres and his team have studied Vargas ahead of the fight. They expect an experienced opponent who can create problems both on the feet and on the ground.
“We know he’s a dangerous and experienced opponent who will come prepared for this fight. In MMA, any small mistake can change a fight.”
Torres believes controlling the pace will be one of the keys to victory. His team has also prepared for several possible scenarios.
“I have a lot of respect for Jefferson, but I fully trust my preparation and the work we’ve done as a team.”
A more complete Pepe Torres
Years of competition in Spain and abroad have changed Torres as a fighter. He now approaches fights with more experience, patience and confidence.
He also believes he understands himself better inside the cage.
“I know when to push, when to wait, how to manage difficult moments, and how to adapt to what happens inside the cage.”
Torres also credits his training environment at Climent Club for part of that development. Training alongside different fighters has forced him to adapt and improve throughout his career.
“I’ve learned that it’s not just about training hard. It’s about training with a purpose, paying attention to the details, and understanding the sport better every day.”
Returning to WOW as Spanish MMA grows
Torres returns to WOW during an important period for MMA in Spain. He believes the sport continues to attract more fighters, events and fans across the country.
He also recognizes WOW’s role in that development.
“There are more prepared fighters, more events, and more people following MMA. Being part of that growth and competing on a card like this is very exciting for me.”
For Torres, however, the focus now remains on September 26. He wants his performance against Vargas to show the progress he has made during his time away from competition.
“I want the fans to see an aggressive, intelligent and prepared Pepe Torres, capable of maintaining a high pace throughout the entire fight.”
After a long wait, Torres is ready to compete again. He wants to enjoy the moment, show his evolution and continue building his career one fight at a time.
