Robert Whittaker
Former world champion Robert Whittaker will be featured in the UFC Sydney co-main event. The Australian will face Uzbekistan’s Bogdan Guskov.
The announcement was made by the organization on Monday morning.
Whittaker is coming off a win over Nikita Krylov at UFC 329. The victory snapped a two-fight losing streak. “Bobby Knuckles” is known for being the first Australian champion in UFC history after winning the middleweight belt. Currently competing at light heavyweight, he stands out for his ability to adapt both on his feet and on the mat, with 11 wins by KO/TKO and 5 by submission.
Guskov will look to end his inconsistent run in the Octagon. Bogdan is coming off a TKO loss to former champion Magomed Ankalaev in the UFC Abu Dhabi main event. Prior to that bout, he fought to a majority draw against Jan Blachowicz at UFC 323. Despite that, he remains a major threat, with 15 wins by KO/TKO.
Since his Octagon debut, he has stood out for his explosive performances and notable wins over fighters of the caliber of Ryan Spann and Nikita Krylov, among others. UFC Sydney will take place this coming February 7 at the Afterpay Arena in Sydney, Australia.
